The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently published a Quality Control Order on 02 May 2024 in the public interest after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS Act, 2016). The telescopic ball bearing drawer slide shall conform to the relevant Indian Standard (IS 17594:2023 as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 and shall bear the mandatory ISI Mark under a BIS License granted from the Bureau of Indian Standards (ISI Mark Certification).

1. IS 17954 applies to the product telescopic ball bearing drawer slides and follows the prescribed requirements as per the category specified in BIS QCO based on loading capacity- light, medium & heavy.
2. The telescopic ball bearing drawer slide used in residential, Institutional, Hostels and colleges, Industry or commercial, Tool cabinets and industrial workstations.
3. The IS 17954 specifies the Dimensional Requirements of Telescopic Ball Bearing Drawer Slide for components used in the product making.
4. For large-scale units and in general, it shall come into force with effect from 6 months from the date of notification.
5. This QCO shall not apply to such goods or articles meant for export.
6. BIS shall certify and enforce the concerned manufacturers to use a Standard Mark as the ISI Mark logo on all the products covered under the same Quality Control Order.
7. According to the BIS Guideline, any person who violates the provisions of this QCO shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (up to Rs. 5 Lakh, imprisonment for up to 1 year term or 5 times annual turnover).

This QCO mandates that all telescopic ball bearing drawer slides manufactured, sold, or imported in India must adhere to the quality standards set by IS 17954 and put up with the Standard Mark (ISI) from BIS. With specific exemptions for export goods, micro enterprises, and small enterprises for a limited time. The BIS is designated as the authority to certify and enforce these standards, and non-compliance will result in penalties as per the BIS Act, 2016.
