BIS Registration for Self-Ballasted LED Lamps IS 16102 Part-1

BIS Registration (CRS) for Self-Ballasted Led Lamps for General Lighting Services – IS 16102 (Part 1)

BIS Registration for Self-Ballasted Led Lamps under CRS

The BIS CRS Registration for Self-Ballasted LED Lamps (IS 16102 Part 1) is mandatory in India. Requiring manufacturers to get their products tested in BIS-approved labs for safety and performance, then apply online via the BIS portal with documents like manufacturing licenses, test report (TRF), and Critical Components List (CCL), to get the license, ensuring compliance for market entry. This process involves online submission, offline hardcopy submission, scrutiny, and final license grant, ensuring quality and consumer safety.

The Indian Standard 16102 (Part 1) specifies the safety and performance requirements for self-ballasted LED lamps intended for general lighting purposes. The BIS Registration under this standard ensures that products meet national safety norms and perform consistently under standard operating conditions. It falls under the Compulsory Registration Scheme- Scheme II.

On 13th September 2015, BIS made self-ballasted LED lamps mandatory for registration as per IS 16102 (Part 1). Without BIS Registration, you cannot manufacture, sell, store, or distribute it in the Indian Market.

Key Specification for Self-Ballasted LED Lamps or General Lighting Services Certification under BIS Scheme-II

BIS Registration India of Self-Ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting under Scheme II of Schedule II confirms that the lamps are of high quality and safe. Self-ballasted LED lamps are among the lighting technologies that have become more and more accepted in the general lighting sector. These lamps are made to easily fit with the older light fixtures and incorporate their own drivers, which do away with the need for a separate ballast.

Moreover, Self-Ballasted LED lamps have an added benefit in that they can be created in such a way that they can cover an entire range of lighting needs. A good example can be to let them be made to produce either warm or cool white light, to have a high color rendering value, or to be dimmable. This flexibility helps self-ballasted LED lamps to be a wise choice for various lighting situations, be it residential, commercial, or industrial.

Key Aspects of IS 16102 Part-1

Let’s go through the key aspects of IS 16102 (Part 1) for obtaining BIS Registration in India:

  1. Type of Product: The standard that applies to Self-Ballasted LED Lamps or a lamp that contains all control equipment in the lamp housing/assembly.
  2. Rated Voltage: Rated voltage (for example, 250V for direct current or 1000V for alternating current at 50Hz) with a wattage rating of 60 watts maximum for lamps.
  3. Non-Repairable Product: The lamp will become a non-repairable product if it has been manufactured with a moulded-in design, associated wiring, and moulding equipment that will not allow the unit to be easily disassembled without causing irreparable damage to the device.
  4. Protection Against Shock: The live components of this product must be attached to the outside of the device and inaccessible during normal use, and all metal parts (except for those of the current-carrying part of the lamp holder) must not become live.
  5. Resistance to Insulation and Electrical Resistance: There must be sufficient insulation between live components and accessibility to the body of the lamp. Tests to determine the integrity of the dielectric strength of the lamp must be performed to establish the dielectric strength of the lamp when exposed to high humidity conditions.
  6. Resistance to Heat and Fire: All external material protecting against electric shock must have adequate resistance to heat and fire, as demonstrated by the ball pressure test or glow wire test.
  7. Fault Condition: The lamp must fail safely when subjected to faulty conditions, i.e., it cannot generate an explosion, ignite a flame, or create a hazardous or flammable gas, and the live components of the lamp must not be accessible.

Prerequisites for Obtaining CRS BIS Registration India for Self-Ballasted LED Lamps
