• Product Testing: The product has a BIS-recognised laboratory to test the product to ensure it meets the relevant Indian Standard (IS).
• Document Submission: After the submission of test reports and supporting documents such as factory details, company registration, and Indian representative details (if applicable), the application may be submitted online through the portal. 
• Fee Payment: Fees for application and processing shall have to be paid according to the fee schedule available on the website of the BIS, including fees for test reports. 
• The BIS Scrutiny: The BIS scrutinises the application, test reports, and documents. Any query or deficiency found is communicated to the applicant via the portal. 
• Grant of Registration: If the application, documents, and response to the queries are satisfactory to the BIS, then registration is granted, and a Registration Number is issued.  
• Marking and surveillance: Then the manufacturer is allowed by BIS to mark the product with the BIS Standard Mark, and the manufacturer may come under the periodic surveillance of BIS to ensure continued compliance. 
• Renewal: Generally, registration is valid for two years and can be renewed without a further test.
